London’s Rooftop Film Club
I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m a Francophile through and through. Now, I'm not going to lie and say that the classic French film Amélie is what made me fall in love with Paris...No, no, that was living and working there for a year when I was straight out of Uni. Putting egregious customer service aside, Paris has a unique quality that unless you get the chance to live and experience it for some time, is really hard to pin down. But that’s one of the reason’s I adore Amélie as it does just that - it nails the kookie side (in this case a little bit extreme but you get it) of Parisian life that’s so hard to describe but this film does it with such aplomb!
So, needless to say, when I was invited along to the Bussey Buildings in South London for a rooftop viewing of the movie accompanied by a dining experience from a Michelin trained chef and bespoke cocktails, I didn’t have to think twice about accepting. Grey Goose has a long and rich affiliation in celebrating great film (The Oscars, BAFTAs...) and this summer they’ve partnered with London’s Rooftop Film Club and The Extraordinary Travelling Film Show to screen cult, independent films all at elevated venues across the city.
The night of our screening was one of those beautiful balmy summer’s evenings in London when the sky turns all shades of pink and orange as the sun begins to set. Entering the rooftop I discovered it had been transformed into the most gorgeous Parisian arrondissement with an accordion duo setting the mood by playing the score from the film. So with a Grey Goose Le Fizz in hand, I looked back over the city of London skyline as the sun settled for the evening.
The best was yet to come. As we took our seats for dinner, Chef Sebastian Delamothe served up the most delicious meal with each course reflecting a key moment from the film paired with specially curated Grey Goose cocktails. My favourite was the caviar hidden under a head of artichoke head and a post-desert Espresso Martini. After dinner we settled in for the viewing. What a movie, what a soiree, what an experience. A brilliant way to kick off a new month!
